On Thursday night myself and two of my very inspirational and talented food and wine friends ventured down to The Design District for dinner; specifically we were in search of Grass Restaurant and Lounge, where the talented Micah Edelstein performs her magic. My entourage consisted of an Executive Chef whose talent and cool demeanor is second to none, a wine expert/guru whose superior knowledge of the grape leaves me completely speechless and then there was me sitting between them, (at any given time there were 17 random conversations going on at the same time and I'm not sure if any of them were ever truly completed thoughts). This was no luck of the draw that the three of us were able to have dinner together, it was carefully planned and executed to the minute as season and schedules don't allow for more than a quick email amongst us. Miami is exciting. The Design District is thrilling and Micah Edelstein is a celebrated talent known for her eclectic world cuisine so what more could three food friends possibly ask for on a Thursday night.
Grass Restaurant & Lounge is an outdoor restaurant in the heart of Miami's Design District. Grass Restaurant & Lounge has a new, refined and refreshing concept, natural eclectic world cuisine set in an unexpected oasis in the heart of a bustling city. The new menu is inspired by Micah Edelstein's travels. She spent a decade living and working on six continents and her focus is to share with her guests the flavors she discovered from all over the world. The new menu features her version of foods both known and unknown with a focus on fresh, healthy, artisanal creations.
We were about to embark on many tantalizing and innovative menu items; the menu is so full of flavors and textures that we left the wine choice up to our resident-wine-expert-dinner-companion to order the wine. And in true form his decision was spot-on, David Bruce, Petite Sirah 2006 (California, Central Coast). The Petite Sirah was a perfect match for our "Sexy Nibbles" of Caramelized Shallot Focaccia and the South African Sosatie Lamb Skewers. After our "Sexy Nibbles" we moved to "Small Plates" of Leek & Fig Braised Duck Potstickers and Ostrich Carpaccio, again perfectly paired with the Petite Sirah. The tastes and nibbles and bites ran the gamut of flavors and textures each one more eclectic and more exciting than the previous; it was as if the charming and gregarious Micah Edelstein was personally taking you on a global culinary tour.
For the Main Attraction we had Grilled Lamb Loin Chops and The Steak Stack both cooked to perfection and meticulously presented as works of art; how truly apropos in The Design District. With the food being exotic, experimental and intoxicating it did not leave you exhausted and indulgent. Micah purposefully plans and serves dishes with global flare introducing her guests to worlds unknown leaving you completely replete with an appreciation for food and wine. Micah Edelstein shows you how to value the experience of food, how to taste food and how to experience the wonder of food. Chef Edelstein is all about fresh, organic, pure and simple she lets the food speak for itself preparing and serving it naturally; enhancing it with minimal accoutrements only to bring out the pureness of food.
To experience an exquisite evening in Miami that is the sheer epitome of culinary art in The Design District, Grass Restaurant & Lounge with Micah Edelstein molding and creating epicurean works of art is second to none.
